Thyroid cancer originates in the cells of the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that produces hormones regulating various bodily functions. While the causes of thyroid cancer remain unclear, certain risk factors, including radiation exposure, genetic predisposition, and some inherited conditions, are associated with an increased likelihood of developing this cancer. Follicular carcinoma is a type of thyroid cancer that arises from the follicular cells of the thyroid gland. It accounts for a smaller percentage of thyroid cancers compared to papillary thyroid carcinoma but is considered one of the more common types of thyroid malignancies.
